Herdsmen's Day#3250
Herdsmen's Day
Fonó, 5 December 2015
For Herdsmen's Day we invited shepherds and herdsmen to a celebration of their special knowledge and who are also masters in song, dance, playing an instrument or some handcraft.
The herdsmen because of their isolation from outside influences, became the most important keepers and source of Hungarian folk culture. Their world of beliefs, handcrafts, music, songs, and dances preserve the most valuable part of our culture. Our memories from before the written word come to life in them.
For Herdsmen's Day we invited 9 active and working shepherds and herdsmen to a celebration of their special knowledge and profession, and who are also masters in song, dance, playing a musical instrument, or a handcraft.
During the event there will be a demonstration of how to make the famous Karcag mutton stew.
16.00 Warming up and making mutton stew with shepherd Csontos György and band
17.00 Crafts demonstration and conversation with herdsmen
18.00 Singing lesson with shepherd Árvai Sándor, assisted by Papp László
19.00 Dances of the Upper Tisza region taught by Kádár Ignác
20.30 Gala performance by the herdsmen with Lajkó Levente 'Lecsó, Kovács Norbert 'Cimbi', Kádár Ignác 'Náci', Végső Miklós. Musicians: Halmos Attila 'Csiga', Mester László 'Pintyő', Szabó Csobán Gergő 'Bakter'
